1185 | 527 | Religion and tourism, or the effect of the implemented developments on the settlement of Bodrogkeresztúr | Nikolett Rozgonyiné Dr. Drotár

Reb Sajele’s renewed «Myth of the Miracle Rabbi» has resulted in Bodrogkeresztúr being added to the map of international Jewish heritage and the number of pilgrims is constantly increasing. Even the «Covid» epidemic could not prevent the number of tourist arrivals, as almost 5 thousand religiously committed tourists came to the settlement even during the lockdown. These facts also support the need for improvements! The aim of the research is to find out whether the developments help quantitative development and tourist satisfaction. Do they contribute to improving the quality of life of the population?_x000D_
Developments can be grouped according to two aspects. Foreign private capital and Hungarian state resources. The Hungarian government financed the renovation of the miracle rabbi’s house and the restoration of the Roman Catholic and Reformed churches. The event space on the main square, the recreation park and lookout point on the banks of the Bodrog. The transport infrastructure improved by modernizing the road through the settlement, building parking lots, purchasing electric buses, designating new bus stops and building an electric charging station._x000D_
The developments financed and coordinated by Jewish organizers focused on the development of the infrastructure supporting the practice of religious life. The mikveh (ritual bath) was renovated. The construction of the community prayer house and lake center, as well as the erection of temporary tents, are in progress._x000D_
The only question for the future is whether the listed developments are sufficient to provide quality service to an ever-increasing number of tourists, and what role will Jewish heritage play in the National Tourism Development Strategy until 2030?
