Since 2012, UNIUD has been studying the solidarity-based economy realities in Friuli Venezia Giulia region, being part of the Forum of Common Goods involving citizens, local authorities, and associations interested in which processes to activate territorially in order to address the crises affecting the globe at different levels. This leads to the Regional Law 4/2017 “Norms for the Valorisation and Promotion of the Solidarity Economy”, focusing on community-territory relations by orienting economic actions towards the creation of a “citizens’ sense of consciousness” to promote local supply chains by applying a socio-economic and cultural model centred on local communities, and on solidarity, reciprocity, environmental sustainability, social cohesion and care for common goods principles. The research evolution led us to reasoning about a possible theoretical-conceptual connection between Territorialist-Bioregionalist and Economic-Solidarity approaches, to characterise and size the sector on the basis of L.R. 4/2017 criteria, and to find out the spatial and territorial dimension of FVG economic-solidarity good practices, central to the activation of local economic paths. Reading the ‘solidarity-based’ territorial transition according to the FVG context, the research shows the presence of a certain variety of realities that can be considered as a part of the Economic-Solidarity panorama; according to the R.L. 4/2017, we found that Economic-Solidarity-based realities are already present in all territories in a fairly balanced way, so that we can think about structuring an economic local model in which community and territory become fundamental tools to the activation of Economic-Solidarity-based circuits (productive chains and networks), and to the sustainable reactivation of productive territories, but considering that the Law application will depend on a bottom-up activation process that still needs to be put in place to build new solid solidarity territorialities.

In the history of urban studies there has been a range of contrasting evaluations and representations of the dynamics of urban systems. Differences have occurred in terms of the delimitation of urban areas, the interpretation of socio-demographic trends, and the evolution of urbanization, which has variously been viewed as the increase in population, proliferation of the number of cities and/or development of the built-up area. At times of crisis (financial, political, economic, industrial, health, climate) there is a tendency to estimate – mainly overestimate – inverted tendencies, and to crystal ball-gaze future scenarios of rural renaissance, counter-urbanization and urban abandonment so as to falsify previous theories, models and paradigms. The aim of this paper is to analyse the dynamics of urban systems in southern Europe – focusing on Italy, Spain and Greece – during the period 1951-2021 according to the theories of urbanization, counterurbanization and city life cycle. Special emphasis is given to the last two decades and to the socio-demographic components of urban dynamics affected by the financial (2007-8) and pandemic (2020-1) crises. A comparison is made between these recent crises and the impact of previous crises (Fordism in the 1970s and 1980s) on the urbanization processes. The scale of analysis is the municipality and neighbourhood levels, chosen in order to see which areas are mainly affected by the processes of decline or re-urbanization. Particular attention is given to the socio-demographic dynamics of the main metropolitan areas. The last part of the paper discusses the results in terms of the debate on deurbanization, shrinkage and re-urbanization, and forwards a number of tentative interpretative hypotheses._x000D_

A model of coastal tourism development that has been decanting mainly to the product of «sun and beach», despite the fact that the climatic conditions are not the most favourable. In this territorial context, Sanxenxo has established itself as the main tourist destination in the Rías Baixas (Galicia) and throughout this wide stretch of the coast. Its tourism development model is materialized in the predominance of the residential tourism offer. The second half of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century are often considered the golden age of railroads when rail lines spurred the development of the economy and the interconnection of space. The lines connected places and brought labour, tourists, and goods. In the second half of the 20th century, many lines were declared unprofitable and closed. But the memories remain, and some of them are still alive in people’s minds, transporting them back to a better time._x000D_
This presentation will explore the opportunities and obstacles to preserving the cultural heritage of four different railroad lines. The first is the Samomorček Railway, which connected Zagreb with the nearby town of Samobor. The second is the Parenzana line, which connected towns in Istria all the way to Trieste. The third is the Rera line, which connected the town of Sinj with Split. And the fourth is the Dubrovnik line, which connected the hinterland with the city of Dubrovnik. All four are narrow-gauge railroads (so-called Bosnian lines) built in the first half of the 20th century. They were built for different purposes in the states of that time. Over time, they played an important role in the transportation and economic development. After their closure, they met almost the same fate. They were mostly dismantled and fell into oblivion. In the last decade, there have been some interventions that tried to revive the railroads’ past and preserve the memory of them and their role._x000D_
