Transformative resilience initiatives are increasingly viewed as an effective way to build resilience in communities when traditional top-down approaches fail. These initiatives emphasize co-creation of knowledge, collaborative learning, and self-organizing processes to empower communities and enhance their capacity to cope with shocks and stresses. Moreover, technological advances are creating new social norms that are changing the way communities interact and collaborate, enabling them to share knowledge and resources and jointly develop solutions to complex challenges. A participatory approach that engages diverse stakeholders and leverages their knowledge and experience is critical to successfully building resilience. Crowdsourced data and Volunteered Geographic Information (VGI) are emerging as unique and valuable sources of information to facilitate collaborative resilience building in urban areas. Using a thematic analysis, this study explores the characteristics of crowdsourced data and VGI and highlights their potential to foster bottom-up participation and community engagement. Overall, this study emphasizes the importance of collaborative resilience building that leverages the power of crowdsourced knowledge, promotes bottom-up participation, and harnesses the potential of digital communities and sociotechnical change. The study concludes with recommendations for policymakers and practitioners, highlighting the need to leverage new technologies and social norms to build more resilient communities that are better equipped to withstand adverse conditions while building a more sustainable future._x000D_
