The objective of this conference paper is to revisit Therezinha de Castro’s geopolitical reasoning, both as a theoretic-methodological structure and as Brazil’s applied geopolitics according to her perspective._x000D_
In the first part, I will analyze her definition of geopolitics – a scientific definition – which makes it a rarity in the Brazilian School of Geopolitics. Core concepts, such as state’s ecumene, geopolitically neutral areas, real power, latent power, and prestige power, as well as other theoretical and methodological considerations, will also be assessed to better understand its application. _x000D_
The second part covers the mentioned application of concepts and other theoretical tools to Brazil as a case study. Therefore, Brazil’s problem with the location of the capital, political issues in the Amazon region, Brazil’s interest in Antarctica, its maritime power projection in the South Atlantic, and Brazil’s confrontation with Argentina will be central topics at stake. _x000D_
The research is accomplished through the innovative framework of neoclassical geopolitics, intercrossing geopolitical factors with systemic stimuli.

The influence of geographical realities on domestic politics and international relations is studied, respectively, in Political Geography and Geopolitical Studies. This session is open to both domains, focusing on theories, variables, factors, and concepts, with the highest value to increase the explanatory power in those two disciplines or approaches. Empirical case studies, applying or testing any theoretical tools or methodological experiments, are also welcome.
